{ Omar, the Love-ster... VERSION 2 }


 
Materials
- 2.50 mm crochet hook
- 100 % cotton yarn for a 2.50 mm hook (8/4)
- A pair of safety eyes of 6 mm
- Tapestry needle and pins
- Soft stuffing, like polyfiber fill   
 
Abbreviations (US Terms)
st = stitch
ch = chain stitch
slst = slip stitch
sc = single crochet

You will need:
Coral yarn for the body and a little bit of light pink to embroider the cheeks. 
Oh! And a bit of black yarn in case you prefer to embroider the eyes.
I use 100% cotton yarn (8/4 – Fingering).

Finished size: 
If crocheted with a 2.50 mm hook, your finished Omar should measure 15 cm long approximately. 
Of course, should you choose a different hook and yarn, the final size will vary...


Ready? Let’s begin...

Body
Using coral yarn…
1. Magic ring of 6 sc
2. Crochet 2 sc in each st (12)
3. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (12)
4. Crochet *1 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * 6 times (18)
5. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (18)
6. Crochet 6 sc, 2 sc in the next 6 stitches and, finally, 6 sc (24)
7. to 9. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (24)
10. Crochet *3 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * 6 times (30)
Place safety eyes between rounds 5 and 6, with a distance of 5 stitches between them. If you find it hard to attach the eyes in such a small space, you can embroider them with a bit of black yarn. Then embroider the cheeks with a bit of pale pink yarn.
11. to 13. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (30)
14. Crochet 2 sc, 2 sc in the next st, *4 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * 5 times, 2 sc (36)
Start stuffing the body and continue doing so as you go…
15. to 22. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (36)
23. Crochet 2 sc, one decrease, *4 sc, one decrease*, repeat * 5 times, 2 sc (30)
24. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch
25. Only through front loops, crochet 1 sc in each stitch (30)
26. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (30)
Fasten off yarn and weave in ends. 

Abdomen - layer 2
Place the body head down and join the coral yarn in the first back loop of round 25 of the body.


1. Crochet 1 sc in the first back loop of round 25 of the body (30)
2. Crochet *4 sc, one decrease*, repeat * 6 times (24)
3. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (24)
Stuff some more…
4. Only through front loops, crochet 1 sc in each stitch (24)
5. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (24)
Fasten off yarn and weave in ends. 

Abdomen - Layer 3
Still with the body head down and join the coral yarn in the first back loop of round 4 of the previous layer….
1. Crochet 1 sc in the first back loop of round 4 of the layer 2 (24)
2. Crochet 1 sc, one decrease, *2 sc, one decrease*, repeat * 5 times, 1 sc (18)
3. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (18)
4. Only through front loops, crochet 1 sc in each stitch (18)
5. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (18)
Fasten off yarn and weave in ends. 

Tail
Still with the body head down and join the coral yarn in the first back loop of round 4 of the previous layer….
1. Crochet 1 sc in the first back loops of round 4 of the layer 3 (18)
2. Crochet *1 sc, one decrease*, repeat * 6 times (12)
3. to 5. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (12)
6. Only through back loops, crochet 1 sc in each stitch
Keep stuffing…
7. Crochet 2 sc in each st (24)
8. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (24)
9. Crochet *3 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * 6 times (30)
10. Crochet 1 sc in the next 15 stitches. Leave the rest of the stitches unworked.
11. Flatten the fin. Check if you need to crochet some extra sc to reach the end of the fin. Then aligning the stitches above and below and sc together the corresponding stitches, 1 sc into each pair of stitches. (15)
Fasten off yarn and weave in ends.

Little legs
Make 6, using coral yarn…
1. Leaving a long initial tail, chain 6 ch stitches. Starting from the second chain from hook, crochet 1 slst into each ch stitch (5).
Fasten off yarn, leaving a long tail to sew.

Heart claws
Make two, using coral yarn

Piece 1
1. Magic ring of 6 sc
2. Crochet 2 sc in each st (12)
3. and 4. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (12)
Fasten off yarn and weave in ends.

Piece 2
1. Magic ring of 6 sc
2. Crochet 2 sc in each st (12)
3. and 4. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (12)

DO NOT FASTEN OFF YARN… Let’s join both pieces.

5. With Piece 2 still on your hook, take Piece 1 and crochet 1 sc in any stitch of Piece 1. Place a stitch marker here since this will be the beginning of the next rounds. Crochet further 11 sc along Piece 1 and then jump to Piece 2 to crochet 12 sc along Piece 2 (24)
6. Crochet 2 sc, one decrease, *4 sc, one decrease*, repeat * 3 times, 2 sc (20)
7. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (20)
8. Crochet *3 sc, one decrease*, repeat * 4 times (16)
Start stuffing…
9. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (16)
10. Crochet 1 sc, one decrease, *2 sc, one decrease*, repeat * 3 times, 1 sc (12)
11. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (12)
12. Crochet *1 sc, one decrease*, repeat * 4 times (8)
13. Crochet *2 sc, one decrease*, repeat * twice (6)
14. to 25. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (6)
26. Press the opening with your fingers. Crochet the necessary sc so that when you close the arm, the closing row of stitches ends up being perpendicular to the heart claws. Once you achieved this, align 3 stitches side by side and sc together the corresponding stitches, 1 sc into each pair of stitches.
Fasten off yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Assembly
- Sew three legs to each side of the body.
- Sew the heart claws to the sides of the body, between rounds 15 and 16. 
- Embroider some spots with a bit of pink yarn.
- Weave in all ends.
