{ Pemberley, the Christmas Bear... }

 

Materials
- 2.50 mm crochet hook
- 100 % cotton yarn for a 2.50 mm hook (8/4 – Fingering)
- A pair of 6 mm safety eyes
- Tapestry needle and pins
- Polyfiber fill  
 
Abbreviations (US Terms)
st = stitch
ch = chain
slst = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
 
You will need:
Brown, red, white and black and a little bit of pink to embroider the cheeks and a bit of yellow to embroider the buckle of the belt.
I use 100% cotton yarn (8/4 – Fingering).
 
Finished size: 
From head to toe, your finished bear measures 21 cm approximately.
Of course, should you choose a different hook and yarn, final measures will vary.


Ready? Let’s begin!


Muzzle
Using brown...
1. Magic ring of 6 sc
2. Crochet 2 sc in each st (12)
3. Crochet *1 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * 6 times (18)
4. and 5. Crochet 18 sc
Fasten off yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing. 
 
Thread a bit of black yarn into your tapestry needle and embroider a few straight stitches to create the nose in the muzzle. Set aside for a while.
 
 
Leg 1 
Starting with black...
1. Magic ring of 6 sc
2. Crochet 2 sc in each st (12)
3. Crochet *1 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * 6 times (18)
4. Only through back loops, crochet 18 sc
5. to 7. Crochet 18 sc
8. Change to white and, only through back loops, crochet 18 sc
9. Crochet 18 sc
10. Change to red and, only through back loops, crochet 18 sc
Fasten off yarn and weave in ends. Set aside.
 
Leg 2 + Body
Starting with black...
1. Magic ring of 6 sc
2. Crochet 2 sc in each st (12)
3. Crochet *1 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * 6 times (18)
4. Only through back loops, crochet 18 sc
5. to 7. Crochet 18 sc
8. Change to white and, only through back loops, crochet 18 sc
9. Crochet 18 sc
10. Change to red and, only through back loops, crochet 18 sc
11. Crochet 2 sc. With leg 2 still on your hook, chain 3 and join leg 1 with 1 sc (place a stitch marker here because this will be the beginning of the following rounds). Crochet further 17 sc along leg 1 and then crochet 3 sc on one of the sides of the 3-ch-chain. Now crochet 18 sc along leg 2, and finally 3 sc on the other side of the 3-ch-chain. Total stitches: 42
12. to 17. Crochet 42 sc
18. Change to black and, only through back loops, crochet 42 sc

Place safety eyes between rounds 38 and 39, with a distance of 10 stitches between them and embroider the cheeks with a bit of pink yarn.

Arms
Make two. Starting with brown…
1. Make 2 chain stitches. Crochet 4 sc in the second chain from hook.

6. Change to white and, only through back loops, crochet 8 sc
7. Crochet 8 sc

No need to stuff the arms...

18. Press the opening with your fingers, aligning 4 stitches side by side and sc together the corresponding stitches, 1 sc into each pair of stitches. (4)

Pointy Hat

Collar
Using white. The collar is not crocheted in rounds, but in rows...
1. Leaving a long initial tail, chain 26. Starting from the second chain from hook, crochet 1 sc in each ch stitch (25)
2. Chain 1 and turn. Crochet 2 sc in each stitch (50)
3. Chain 1 and turn. Crochet 2 sc in each stitch (100)
4. and 5. Chain 1 and turn. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch (100)
Fasten off yarn and weave in ends.

Assembly
- Stuff the muzzle and sew it between the eyes.
- Curve the ears and sew them to both sides of the head.
- Sew the arms to the sides of the body.
- Stuff the tail lightly and sew it to the back of your bear, just below the black belt.
- Using the long initial tail, knot the collar around the neck.
- Stuff the pointy hat and sew it to the head. Then, using a bit of white yarn make a pompom and sew it to the tip.
- Weave in all ends inside the doll.
